Default Breaking apart, advice please

I got an extreme dvd course in teaching ways to use photo shop and well this is one of the projects

I followed it, and used the stock image provided with the dvd and added my own twist and all to it, however I would like to hear some opinions on this with people who actually care. Not just laymen who think its cool or scary (even though it could be).

Does this effect look realistic?
does it look like it is actually falling apart, or completely fake and unrealistic???
Do the pieces closest to her face come off as too excessive and could grow a bit or no?

The message I thought to put across with this message is the fact/opinion that girls(people) might look great on the outside however are "Breaking Apart" on the inside.
Also "The truth comes out one way or another".

Any advise would help, thanks

Sorry if this file embedded into this post is too big.
I do not know how to re size it without opening photoshop again.

It's a cool effect, kinda scary.

Is it realistic? huh? No, it's not in any way, shape, or form realistic. It is surreal and it is well done. I am not sure I get the message you were going for but others might. To me, it looks best suited to convey the need for a moisturizing cream! Kidding aside, it is really very interesting and I can appreciate the amount of effort it took to create. I am unsure of the proper procedure for watermarking someone else’s photo that I manipulated with my name.

Nice effect, but realistic no.

The hard color edges take alot away from the effect. If you could have the colors more of a softer gradiant between the face and the pieces might help, same with the skin cracking, its to hard.

jmo and I am in no way a good judge..

IMO I think the pieces breaking away from her face should go from larger to smaller as they get farther away to look as they are crumbling more. And maybe add a few more cracks near where the pieces are breaking off of her face. Otherwise I think its a pretty cool effect.

The effect on the body is nice but I guess something should be done to ease the transition from the model's face to the gravel (is it gravel by the way?). And yes, I agree with vegepunkstr that the pieces should go from big to small. Putting it the other way around make it looks unnatural. Good job nonetheless. Keep it up.

^^^ Agree with above. When things break apart they go from bigger pieces to smaller ones. Also, the skin on the shoulders looks pretty cracked up and ready to crumble yet the facial skin, which looks pretty clear is the part beaking away. The gradation between the flesh tone and the blue should also be more gradual.

This project has emphasized the technical aspects of the effects but some more logic needs to go into the design.

I agree with all of you to start with.

I will make the watermark more politically correct and find the correct citation of the original.
Considering the colours is a good idea and making a more of a gradient effect towards it all iI suppose eh.

I was thinking the same thing after I was making it, and it does seem more (don't know how to word this) correct, to have it from bigger to smaller, then it would be easy to have pieces actually falling of, not dissolving to only grow...
There is no gravel in this at all, which makes me wonder how good that looks.. hmmm
I actually had to select every single piece in the effect, cut it, move it and reshape them to make it look better then what it could have. then after that, put a dirt or salt flats image over top (which should extend up from her shoulders, and then a blue and brown overlay.

And last to be mentioned,
This line will be the theme statement for the next time trying this effect, and hopefully it will look a lot better.
I'm hoping for the best!

Thanks everyone

I really like it but i think that u shoul keep the same colour (or blue or red) to make it a little bit more realistic
