old figurine

Hi,

I'm new at this forum and also new at photography. This is one of my first shots and I also read a tutorial about this high pass filter and decided to apply it on this photo. Kindly give some feedback. Thanks.




Shot with:
Nikon D3000 - 18-55mm kit lens
Exposure: 1/2 sec at f9.0
Focal length: 40mm
ISO Rating: 100

That is a nice capture. I think I would have moved the basket in the back as it is a little distracting or lowered the Aperture to its smallest setting to create more bokeh on it.

Either way a lovely shot in my opinion.

You're right. I think I should have moved the basket away.
I will definitely try to do this shot again with the smallest aperture possible on my lens.

as sassy said I would have move the basket out of the picture and mabey chose a different surface. Nice photo though, I am a beginner myself. Please look at my macro post on Fall Leaf, posted right after yours.

Nice shot. I agree with the basket as well. I would liketo try that shot on some old barn boards.

@photo and JohnnyA -- Hey! Thanks for the ideas. I've been thinking of what other backgrounds to use with that shot. I'm gonna look for some materials a bit later. Thanks again!

Your exposure is good and the image is nice and sharp.

I would get a piece of solid color poster board to use as a seamless backdrop, and a mirror or piece of white foam board to use as a reflector to bounce some additional light into the shadows on the figurine.
