Default Basketball

Hey guys, just looking for opinions on the processing on this. Wasn't sure if it's overdone or not. Scathing critique on the rest of the photo is welcome as well.

If you're going to critique this (you should!) you should look at it big first. It's hard to see what's going on in the medium size picture below.

Basketball v. Kentucky

Camera: Canon EOS 40D
Exposure: 0.001 sec (1/800)
Aperture: f/1.4
Focal Length: 35 mm
ISO Speed: 500

Thanks guys.

A very nice shot, the low angle works well and everything looks reasonably sharp. A great job in the, presumably, awful lighting conditions (as they always are )

From a PP perspective, I'd like to see slightly more saturation in the hope that it would make the players stand out a little more. I'm loath to suggest selective colour / desaturation as I'm not a big fan, but maybe you could saturate the players a little more than the crowd?

Great work on the composition and exposure.

hi!

i find it hard to cover sports event. (i seldom shoot sports...)
In my POV, i think the photo sends a gloomy aura... which is in contrast to what a basketball game should be.

also, cropping the lower part to apply rule of thirds might be good. (from the tip of the lower portion of the photo to the edge of the reflection... or add some space to it.... )

Thanks for the quick replies guys.

@CaptainNH: I see what you mean. The photo is desaturated in general, but the players do blend into the crowd a little bit too much.

@Raigoki: I meant for it to be gloomy. I shoot sports quite a bit so I wanted to do something different from the ordinary tight action shots. Thanks for the thoughts

Really original looking basketball shot. I too wonder about cropping the bottom. If I did, it would be just enough to crop out the relection of the back board. I really like the reflection here but I think there might be a little too much empty space at the bottom.

You know in this case I say forget the rule of thirds and leave it the way it is! I like your processing and really think the floor ads to the ambiance. Nice capture!
