Default Old Wedding Dress

Well...not old. Brand new in fact. But my friend was helping me shoot an informal wedding (only reason why I agreed...) and she was having a hard time finding a good location for a dress shot. One of the shots that she was going to throw away was this one but I decided to do some texture work on it and see what I can do.

This has been post processed and layered with about 3 different textures from the Florabella Texture collection to give it a faded antique look. I think it works well with the bookshelf but...well...looking to see what others think!

I like the vintage tones/effect, and I really like the textures that you used.

However, the composition is what is puzzling me. I guess I am just kind of confused as to why you chose to hang the dress in front of a bookshelf. I'm not seeing the connection between the bookshelf and wedding dress.

Ah. Well, I can't speak for the composition as I was not the one that took the photograph. It was taken by my friend who was helping me out with the shoot. I think she was simply looking for a good background and, if I remember correctly, this was just where it was hanging when she first got into the room. She later moved it over to a nice bright window and got much nicer shots with the light filtering through the fabric.

So...yeah...why bookshelf? ...because it was there?

Oh. Sorry. I missed that little detail of this not being your shot.

You've done a nice job with the textures to give the shot a vintage feel for sure. However, like natek313 noted about the composition, I find myself trying to read book titles and ignoring the dress.

Hmm...maybe I can subtley blur out the background... I was just seeing if the shot was salvageable. I guess in the end it'll all depend on what the client thinks but, well...I'm sure most of us here knows, after you look at an image for a long time it's hard to get a fresh perspective...

Thanks guys!
