all very valid opinions,
arlon, your comment about being just between realistic and artistic is true, it was meant to be this way. I do agree with you that some people like full blown HDR and others more realistic but i think there may be a litle place for what is in between too, it does not have to be all black or all white. Thank you for taking time to post the comment. Sybren, i will try Huggin, i never thought of it. PomND, Thank you for the comment. i will try to sharpen it a bit and see the results. r lucas, thank you for the comment. I dont understand what you mean by relationship between the size of the wood pile and plane. I would like to know more on what you think . Andre cb, thank you for the comment.

I am not a big fan of "fake" looking HDR photos, BUT it actually seems with this picture. The tones set the right eerie mood for this poor old twin that came to rest next the pond. I would say that there are probably a lot of people out there who are not going to care for the somewhat over-cooked tone mapping, but the composition looks great and it does have character. (Please note: my opinion may be biased... I am an aircraft mechanic/pilate)

"it's not realistic" sayest a lot of people. But I ask you, when exactly was the last time you actually viewed a scene like this in real life? Which of you has intimate knowledge of the color of primer paint used on these aircraft (as that what the brown paint seems to be)?
I think it's a very well done shot, and the increased contrast serves well in bringing out the detail that might otherwise have been lost in the winter light.

I sit firmly in the realistic HDR camp, I use HDR occasionally to bring out the detail in dark holes, but stay well away from tone mapping. That said, it's just reflective of my style of photography.
I think the "issue" with the original image is that it's not immediately evident if it's supposed to be a natural or obvious HDR image.

I really liked the colours in this shot. Maybe it's my brain, but my eyes kept pulling to the left. I mirrored the image in PSPx2 and felt more comfortable. Perhaps I have a SW-NE bias.

I for one love HDR, If it's done right. IMO It's only fair to show before & after pic's. That's were it comes in interesting to me. How creative you are in Post- Processing the image.
