Default Secrets

I took this photo but was unhappy with a number of things. Mainly the empty space to the upper right hand section and the fact the lock was out of focus. My mistake - I should have checked. All in all it was a pretty boring shot so I've just been playing around with it a bit and came up with this. I think it's an improvement but it's still nothing special. I'd like to do something with the text - it's a bit plain and boring.

Secrets

f6.3
1/8 sec
ISO 400 due to dappled shaded area.

DPP included adding one B&W gradient and a blue > orange gradient set to soft light @ about 50% opacity. Added a peeling paint texture and the text - which was also created by me.

How else could I make it less boring? Tighter crop maybe, to get rid of the dead space?

Cheers,
Matthew

I like the processing and texture you used here. I think correcting the focus next time and moving the lock up just a little in the frame. As for the text I think the font and jagged edges of the font aren't really working here. I like the words and placement you choose. Perhaps finding a better font and going with bold will help draw the eye more toward the words. Right now with the lovely processing you did on the image the less the stellar word font selection looks like it was an after thought.

Nice work I really like the processing here. Thanks for sharing.

I like the grunge kinda effect here.
something I would suggest is Lock more towards the center. The lock is almost cut..
As far as the fonts are concerned.. It looks more of like a page from Bible or a holy book..
Overall I like the picture..

In terms of graphics arts, compositional elements are chosen to lead the viewers' eyes towards the subject of the image.

From what I see in this photo, the discolored wood and parts of the chain are in sharp focus, but the lock is both out of focus AND angled oddly. If the subject of the image was the lock, the viewers eyes are being directed elsewhere, *away* from the lock.

My dos centavos, anyway.
