Default Super colorful gum

Gum
EXIF
Camera: Nikon D40
Exposure: 0.05 sec (1/20)
Aperture: f/4.5
Focal Length: 32 mm
ISO Speed: 800
Exposure Bias: 0 EV
Flash: Off, Did not fire

Okay, so I'm wondering if the selective coloring looks good, or if I should lose it and just have a fairly desaturated background. I want the rainbow gum to stand out a lot, but do you think it's too much?

Also, composition critique and stuff is always loved

I love the angle of the shot and think the selective coloring is a good choice, although my eyes are attracted to the glare in the middle of the gumball machine's glass. It too is colored and looks odd. I wish I could offer advice on clearing that up.

Thanks for sharing!

I think the sepia definitely contributes to the "penny candy store" feel. So that was a very good call.

I agree that the glare is distracting, but the gum also does seem "super colorful." To the point of oddness. I feel like the bright neon colors don't go with the sepia. If there was some way to desaturate the gum colors alone, I guess I would try that.

But all in all it's a great shot!

i think you did a good job at that. although i would strongly recommend that you get a CP filter (to get rid of the glare) and many have it so that you can see the words on the front or something (even if you have to physically turn it round a little)

other then that.. nice.

I love it. I agree the glare is distracting. I would take down the opacity maybe to 60 percent and bring out the color in the gum. It might not be so dramatic yet still stand out.
Good Luck!

Hi souledout,
I think the sepia diminish the selective color. Pure B&W can add some points but this is IMHO.

Thanks for share this beauty.

Great shot!
Imo id mute the colour of the gum a bit so its more inkeeping with the sepia tones of the rest of the shot. Stark contrast between b&w and neon would look good but sepia, i personally, lends itself to the more muted tones.

As you can see by some of the pictures that I posted in the share your shots section, I am big on the reverse b & w , sepia, tin type etc. I really like this shot of yours. Its perfect the way it is. It might be nice to experiment with it a little with the colors and such. See what you might come up with. Good pic all in all. I can almost taste it.
