Default Western Fence...

Lizard or commonly a blue belly.

This guy was running around as we were hiking in the hills near our house. At the time I got this shot, the only lens I had was the 18-70 Sony kit lens, so I got as close as he would let me, laid in the dirt to get the shot.

In photoshop:
I cropped (is it enough?)
did some sharpening, not too sure of my hand at that, (comments or help)
desaturated the background and saturated the lizard using layer masks. (too far on either?)
I also took the dirt in the foreground and messed with hue to turn it the green cast to make it less obtrusive (did that work?)

exif:
Camera: Sony DSLR-A300
Exposure: 0.003 sec (1/320)
Aperture: f/5.6
Focal Length: 70 mm
ISO Speed: 100
Exposure Bias: 0 EV
Flash: Off

I notice a huge difference in viewing photos on my 24" iMac v my 6yo laptop, am I doing myself a disservice by editing on the mac screen where it looks so good?

I like what you did with the second shot. That blur on the bottom right does bother me, it takes the focus off of the subject for me.
