Default Phone Box

Hi everybody

I've had my camera for 4 months already and took a lot of pictures but not a single critique (of course my friends like everything I do so I do not count their critique)

What do you think about the composition and the colors in my photo?

Thanks and....

Hi! This is a great shot and I can see what ur going for, however I think that as the shot is split almost perfectly in two and one side being colour and the other b/w it just looks a little like two shots plonked side by side.... In my opinion I think if you perhaps just got the phone box on a little more of an angle to show the 3 dimensions the effect would be stronger.

Hope that made sense!!

I think this is a fantastic shot. It would be neat to see how it looks in b&w as well. Or if you just had the stuff on the left in b&w instead of sepia. Overall though, I like it as it is. I like all the detail on the phone.

Thanks guys

I did the left part it in B/W but my eye couldn't get used to it and then I went on with sepia.

The angle effect sounds cool and promise I will take another shot soon and give the new perspective a try

I like the idea very much, but I do agree on the perspective-thing.
But with this one it's perhaps nice to make it all black and white with only the telephone itself being yellow. It might look more unified but yet the focus remains on the telephone because it's in colour.
Unfortunately I don't know yet how to do that, so I can't demonstrate it. Sorry for that.

I think the perspective needs a little adjustment like previous posters have recommended. Also nothing is particularly sharp in the image. What auto focus point where you using? Did you manually focus? Perhaps the lack of sharpness is due to a hand that wasn't very steady. I think an image like this the phone really needs to be sharp and in focus. The aperture you selected the image should be sharper. Is this the kit lens? If so I would stop the lens down another stop or two and adjust the ISO if needed. I like the color of the phone and rules of third in the image.

Thank you for sharing

Thanks for the reviews. I need it and is really helpful for me. I am pretty new and unexperienced in photography and I've decided to learn more about it throught the forums and books.
The thing is that your posts have bigger effect than the books because they judge my "work" directly (of course I will keep on with books too)

Beunky PS probably gives a lot of ways to do a single thing but I am still in a process of learning it and always take the longest and most complicated ways) but I know I will get there. Good luck for u too.

Murtasma touched my biggest fear-the focus. I use the viewfinder to take pictures. I use manual focus and the central focus point I thought. Unfortunately sometimes when I look at the camera display it is fine but when I open it on my PC is so out of focus.
I try to keep my hands steady and don't even breathe when I press the shutter...so probably my eyes need to be checked

Thanks again and sorry for my English. I am learning it too

Thanks. Try www.lynda.com for a huge collection of PS video tutorials. Very, very helpful.
I've seen just a few of them yet and that helped me a great lot to get me started on PP.
And if you have the chance to get your hands on NIK plugins (and OnOne plugins), get them. It'll save you a lof of time and frustration (it does for me, at least ).

Hmm... why do you use manual focus? Don't you have AF or is it you just don't like AF?
If you have a tripod, you should definitely use it for shots like this. And if you don't, go and get one
