just trying to test and get used to my new cokin ND4 filter system
first shot http://img149.imageshack.us/img149/2913/mg0008.jpg what I'm looking for: insurance that my shots are NOT blown out and the tones are good. composition aren't even considered for these shots

I don't see any blow outs. But it seems my UV filter would get the same results. I also thought that their selling points were to be able to bring out colors more. Like bluer skies, greener grass, etc. Maybe it's a case of camera settings which you didn't post. So I can't comment anymore on this.
You can do a search on Cokin filters on Flickr to see some other results.

Many years ago (1978-80), I used to own a cokin filter system.........spent tons of money. Then I realized, now why the hell do I want to put a piece of plastic over my lens and shoot through it.

Tried to adjust the levels in PS from the RAW file gave me this:
![]() which is indicative of too much adjustment, this was done under auto-levels.
