Green on black

I took this photo of a friends birds last night. Background was very distracting so I decided to paint it black. I used paintbrush tool in photoshop and literally painted the background. That all I did. My questions are...

1) Did I do a good enough job of painting around the details of the bird?
2) Does the background look good...or fake? Tacky?

I like the black background, it really shows the bird off beautifully! I just see one tiny spot that could be closer, right on his beak. Otherwise I never would have known you painted. Good job!

Nice job, like Susan said there is a wee bit up close to the beak that you might have got a tighter line on if you had got in closer to it but other than than I think it enhances the bird and takes away any distracting background. Well done.

i like the look of the black background...i didnt get up close to check out how well done it was, but i think it looks great in general!
