Default Not What I Meant...

Would you please tell me if this type of PP works at all? I am completely NEW when it comes to PP-ing and when I was using PS CS4 for the first time and trying to work with layers ~ ~ I got this...

I know nothing about High Key or what that even means (haven't read those tutorials, yet), but from some of the examples posted here on DPS that used that term, I'm wondering if this would be considered as such?

Regardless, does this type of effect lend itself well to the subject matter? My original intent was simply to bring up the colors to make them pop. I honestly don't even know what I did to get this result - again, not what I was trying for, but does it work? What would you have done differently?

I noticed only one picture per new thread - do I need to link to the original as well?

THANK YOU!!

High Key?

It's fine to post a link to the original (especially in the post-processing threads I think).

I actually like this shot overall. At first glance I wasn't sure about the exposure, but I actually really like it.

Hi Nicole,

Thanks for taking a look at this. I don't know how to post a link - I only know how to post a photo from Flickr . I'll just wait and see if anyone asks for it and then try to work it out then.

The exposure threw me off a bit, too. That's why I sent it here before deciding if I liked it !

I think the work you have done is great, nice balance of color and the overall tone works well.

If you posted a copy in the Critique threads I could give you a couple of tips on the composition, I can't here.

I actually think it looks fine! Almost a bit cross processed. Looks like the brightness was raised which would lighten the yellows and whites to almost blend and the red would pop a bit more.
I think the blown out area behind the flower and vase works great in this shot keeping the attention on the subject!

if the area behind the flower had no texture it would not have worked. As it is, it really is a stunning image. The different colors and symentrical shapes work very well together. My one and only suggestion would be to maybe bring out the yellow in the middle of the flower more to balance it off with the vase.
My hat goes off to you!
