Hi,
I am new to this forum and have been playing around with my relatively old point and shoot and camera phone before I buy a digital SLR which I have been longing for. I have read in several places, that it is a good idea to practice and produce good images with existing equipment before upgrading. So that is what I am doing. Please can you give me some suggestions/criticisms for the shot below to help me improve my ability? Do you think I have overprocessed the image? This one was actually taken with an iPhone as I was waiting for my compact camera to recharge. |

Its not too bad for a phone. Its soft image which could be sharpened in post.
I think the sepia or monochromtic shot is really defeating the idea of an image of a rubik's cube. The colors are what they are known for and think leaving the color is important to make this type of subject pop. As for placement it is fine....not centered and could even be cropped a bit to get rid of some negative space but then again its fine with the emptiness there. Good idea to practicing but more so before purchasing make sure you are going to put time and effort into the hobby to make the expense worth it. Ithink practicing with a Point and shoot is so much different than with a DSLR. I say if you know you are going to continue with shooting then bite the bullet and just buy it and practice then.
