Default B&W with some colour

I'm playing around with b&w photos but know little what to look for in them. The main method i used was to take out the colours by using hue-saturation but left some yellow in there, i also added a sepia filter. I am after your thoughts on the b&w transition from colour and also do you think it works leaving the yellow moss on the timber

I actually kind of like the color in the wood. May i suggest that you try putting the pier at an angle tho s so it isnt cutting your image in half?

Thanks for your reply windrider. I think i understand what you are saying, but to take another shot i'd have to jump on a plane. I had cropped the shot so i had some to play with, so i've tried to 1/3 the composition up with what i had left to try to minimize the impact of the pier.

I like the colors. The second shot is definitely better with composition.

I definitely like the effect. Very nice. It is similar to something I have always wanted to try.

What PP software are you using? You can tilt the pier in PP...
