Default At bat

I played with this photo in PSE7 and used AlienSkin Bokeh filter. Does it look over done or did I capture that "high priced glass" look? How is the photo overall?
Thanks for looking
Melaina

melaina,

My eyes have never seen a scene this way, and if they had, I'd suspect head trauma. It isn't realistic, just over the edge on the farthest afield players and baseline. I'd try using basics by hand, even if it takes a little longer.

The batter looks good.

This is what I was going for:

That fast lens look. This photo is from Alien Skins website as part of a tutorial, here.
Guess I missed the mark.
Thanks

What are the increments of blur amount? Can you back off some on the furthest blurriest part? It looks like dust in the outfield at this amount. Part of this is the good mixture of crowd light/dark in the tutorial, and your photo with light uniform against light infield.

Is this one better?

I lessened the blur on the slider from 26 to 18, if that makes any sense.
In a more perfect world, the ballfield he played at would have been dirt & grass instead of small gravel. I hate that stuff!

melaina,

This is believable, helped some by the extra space above the players, too. If you liked your first crop, and left some of that space at the top, it would still work well.

See what the rest think, it's all subjective. That looks better to me. Batter looks a little more "peewee," and his additional view gives a better "sense of place."

I agree with Jiminy.....much more realistic and a better crop on the second try.

My two cents...I would rotate just a little so the grass line at the back of the photo appeared perfectly horizontal, but maybe that's just nitpicky...

Although the second one is better, I don't really like the effect. The blur doesn't seem to increase evenly as you go further back into the photo, which gives you a bit of trouble perceiving depth. Some of the fielders seem to have more blur than the cars, fr'instance.... it kinda makes my brain ache a bit!

The shot itself is really nice...
