I'm a big fan of playing with polar coordinates, too. One thing I have found that really helps, is to select a circle encompassing the main part of your shot, and then copy and paste that onto a colored background. Black works really well with images having gray or cloudy skies. I've never tried it with a panorama shot, but I will have to give it a try. I like the way your shot turned out.
