Default Lest we pray for those no longer present

Hello all,

I have embarked upon a 52 project and in my mind set myself tasks to take topical photos as opposed to just randomness. My theory being it would be easier to be inspired by relevant issues.

We have had a passing in our family and yesterday was the funeral. I wanted to catch teh sombre mood of which had descended upon us for the past week and encapsulate it.

I like the picture, I think the rear lighting works well and is not overpowering. I created a B&W layer and blended the two together to create this however i think i am going to work further to expose the whole of my face in teh B&W layer to even up the tones. I also think i might remove most colour almost to desaturation point.

Can you let me have your comments on the lighting composition and whether i captured what i intended in your view?

Thanks

I like a lot about the picture, but it doesn't really fit the title. To me the "feeling" needs to be much sadder/ more somber. I think the brightness and saturation cause this to feel "happier" than intended.

It's a nice picture. The mood is sombre, but I find the lighting harsh and blown out in a few spots - particularly the face and shirt and hands.

The title seems odd though:

"Lest we pray" means to prevent praying. As in "Lest we forget" - to prevent us from forgetting.

Are you sure you meant to say lest?

"Lest we forget" means "In Case"; or "Unless" we forget In other words, "lets do this thing "In case" we forget to do it."

This is from my dictionary:

Quote:
lest |lest|
conjunction formal
with the intention of preventing (something undesirable); to avoid the risk of : he spent whole days in his room, headphones on lest he disturb anyone.
• (after a clause indicating fear) because of the possibility of something undesirable happening; in case : she sat up late worrying lest he be held up on the way home.
ORIGIN Old English thȳ lǣs the [whereby less that,] later the læste.

Either way - "Lest we pray" seems a bit odd.

Agreed! "Let us pray" would have been more appropriate. regards, Ken

Nope didnt mean lest...

As for the lighting, this thread has answered my question. I will replace with my edit tonight. Basically the blown out portion is to do with the layers not the lighting.

I think i will have the whole picture correctly exposed but desat to the point that only a small amount of colour is present.

I would try the photo in B/W - B/W photos evoke emotion which is what I think you are trying to convey...

And I am so sorry for your loss...

I like this version much better...and agree that it would look great B&W. Maybe not completely B&W - perhaps only partially desaturated?
