What I was trying to achieve here is a vintage/harsh feeling... but I'm not sure if the result is good or not
![]() I'm looking for a critique on composition and obviously post processing. ![]() Camera: NIKON CORPORATION Model: NIKON D5100 Lens: Nikkor AF-S DX VR 55-300mm ISO: 200 Exposure: 1/125 sec Aperture: 9.0 Focal Length: 55mm Flash Used: false

Sorry mate, I just couldn't resist it.
For some reason I'm thinking about film stills here? On the one hand it looks a bit 'Bonnie & Clyde'. On the other hand it could be 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre'? I'm a big advocate for what's known in theatrical circles as 'Mise en scene'. People should intervene to make their photos? If you had a girl in a charity shop man's suit smoking a cigar that'd be Bonnie, but a big guy with a hockey mask & a big knife? Alternately, you're trying to get 'harsh' by upping contrast. Have you tried combining a high contrast b&w with the colour version? |

It needs something more to create a mood.
The tree on the left side draws my eye away. It is way too bright. Maybe crop? I'd get rid of the antenna, and maybe vignette the whole image so that the edges are darker and lead you into the cabin. Maybe clone an image of someone looking out the window. I agree with the above post that it is a good set but needs a story or an actor of sorts to go along. |

Hey thank you for your replies!
![]() So first of all it seems something is missing from the scene The fact is what I was thinking was... "Who's in the cabin?" Like a mystery but I guess now it's not enough.Noted both distracting tree and vignetting for when I get home. I will probably try your other suggestions as well, even thought I usually use Lightroom for my PP but I guess in this case I need something more versatile. |

I love it! I also agree that it needs something done to draw your eye in- and I think some strategic vignetting would be perfect... maybe just burn the edges so it doesn't look obvious though. Totally reminds me of a horror movie... I think I'd throw a zombie or two in there

Thanks!
I tried to modify the picture a bit: slightly different split toning, reduced exposure on the tree, subtle vignetting (is it? ) to focus the attention especially on the window.I think it looks a bit better (at least I like it ) but I still agree with all of you: nice scene but missing subject.
