Default Hybrid Photo Attempt (sunset/ nighttime)

So I heard about a technique recently involving taking two photos a few hours apart, and then combining elements from both of them. Here's my first attempt at that kind of technique. I took a photo of a sunset, and then a photo of a night scape, and combined the sunset reds over the nighttime blues. What I want to know is if the combination came off as appealing, and if the colour balance I struck is pleasing, or if it's too orange or blue?

I'm going to brutally honest here - the image does nothing for me. It looks to me like an alien invasion blowing something up in the distance. There may be something in this process I don't know, but I don't think it worked too well here. Sorry, but that's my take fwiw.

It is an interesting approach but I don't think you made the most of it with this scene. I'd suggest looking for some different angles at a location you can approach at different times of day. After combining, don't be afraid of some spot editing - you could also do with losing those ugly green blobs.

I have to admit that I rather like the alien invasion effect but I think you need to work more to make the most of it if that becomes your concept.

When I see that dark of a foreground, I don't expect to see a bright sun in the distance, so it looks unnatural. The white flare in the lower left and light streaks in the sky are confusing. I think if you got rid of the distracting light streaks you could be on to something, but it just looks like you're still in the experimental stage now.
