Hi Amanda,
I love how you have captured the shot. Its very mysterious, almost to the point of being post apocalyptic; horror. I do not know if you were going for that "look" but it does come across that way. Composition I do not know if you cropped it that way however, the window sill is tilted. You should re-orient it so its straight, you might have to use the perspective tool in Photoshop to merge it correctly with a vanishing point. Or you could leave it this way as it does invoke disorientation Colors This shot lacks much color and the colors that are visible are obstructed by the window sill and dew drops. I would recommend you convert this into a black and white picture (pushed a little more to black). This will give it a more dramatic feel. Other than that, its a very good shot. Feel free to check out some of my work here: Foto Magic Studios - Home. Give me your useful feedback as well. =) If you have any questions / concerns shoot me a pm and we can discuss it there. |

I really like this. It has a melancholy feel to it. I like the tilt, but wonder what it looks like without the square crop?
I think the colors are fine. There's just enough to give the photo the pop that it needs - pushing the color any further and it'll go nuclear, lol. As the previous poster mentioned, this might be interesting in BW as well. In color though, it gives me the feeling of a little boy who is so wanting to go outside on a rainy day, and can't. It would have a totally different feel in BW - perhaps from melancholy to macabre? I don't know - I'm probably overthinking it, lol. All in all - I really do like this. |

Thank you both for your responses! I replied to this last night but for some reason my post hasn't showed up!
I took your advice, or tried too....this is what I came up with- ![]() I originally wanted the window tilted, I thought it might add to the emotion. I do like it straight though, especially in black and white. I tried to make it more black as suggested. Im not great at converting to B&W, I just mess with it until I think it looks good. I did want it to have a sad feeling to it...Sort of like somebody left and he desperately misses them. I think the B&W adds even more emotion. fotomagicstudios- you have some wonderful shots on your website. I have so much to learn! I do think I like taking artsy kinds of photographs more than simple portraits...I really want to make the viewer connect to my pictures on an emotional level. I am really trying to find an amazing photographer to help me with my work. I will post a link to my Flikr account, I would love for you-anyone-to check it out! I need outside prespective! Everyone I show my pictures to (friends &family) gush about how great my work is, but I need an educated, experienced opinon! Sorry for going on! Hoping this post actually shows up.... Thanks!! I have replied twice now but neither post is showing up. Maybe because I was trying to post a picture with the edits I made? I'll just post a link to my Flickr account this time, hopefully it works!
I thank you both for taking time to look at my picture and for your responses! I did want it to have a melancholy feeling- sort of like somebody left and he desperately to come back. I had purposely tilted the window, thinking itmight add to the emotion. I am not the best at converting to black and white, I still have much to learn! I gave it a go though, I also tried to straighten out the window. I tried to make it more black as suggested. Please take a look and tell me what you think. fotomagicstudios- you take lovely pictures. Thank you for sharing your site with me. I am dying for outside perspective on my photos, from people who know the technicalities of photography and post processing. I am open to all critisms! Here is the link to my Flickr account- DSC_0327BW | Flickr - Photo Sharing! Thank you! Amanda |
