Default Abandoned

One of my attempts at HDR with which I'm satisfied. Kindly comment and critique

Abandoned by Kirtan Acharya, on Flickr

Strangely, this HDR looks much better in BW than in colour. Wonder why this is so.

To me there are things that just scream to be done in B&W. Old farm equipment, barns, old rusted heaps (vehicles), etc.. Your photo has an interesting feel to it that I'm into. I like it.

I do have a couple things I would change, however I am very green when it comes to photography, so take this for what it's worth.

What is the focal point? The gondola (or whatever it is), or the entire site as a whole? If it is the entire site as a whole, I think the fencing in the foreground, and tent makes it appear a bit cluttered, and I loose interest fairly quickly.

Perhaps a closer shot of something in that site specifically. Maybe focus on the gondola itself. If the gondola was the focal point, maybe shoot it from another perspective, like from a low vantage point, or something of that nature.

Like I said, take it for what it's worth...I do like the shot, it looks interesting. But maybe another perspective or focal point would have made it that much more so. Thanks for sharing!

I really love this photo, but I agree with above poster in that you need a stronger focal point. Perhaps if you could get the broken ride into more of the upper third corner of the frame without losing too much of the rest it would help your composition and draw the eye in. A little more like this......

And yes, sometimes Black and White just turns out great!

Great subject, nice image but I do feel there was a lot more there pos a lower angle which would have made the sky as a background removing the distracting coastline.

But well spotted theat said I do realy like the image nice work.

all the best

I like the image and often like that top heavy sky look. But... the ride, the fence and the ticket booth are so interesting that bringing them closer really works for me. The large sky, does give it that lost, abandoned look, but the components are delicate and interesting and I want a closer look.

The shot looks great in B&W. Good choice.

I love what you have done with the picture. The black and white effect is awesome; it really shows how peaceful death can be.

However, I would crop the picture, you have too much empty space (the sky) in the shot. Crop the picture following the Golden Mean / Rules of Third. That should help users focus in on the subject better.

Keep up the good work!
