We Move by philografy, on Flickr

Camera: Canon EOS REBEL T1i
Exposure: 0.2 sec (1/5)
Aperture: f/5.6
Focal Length: 55 mm
ISO Speed: 400

I'm mostly looking for critiques on the "aging" process I applied here... is it too much? Not enough? Is there anything about the photo that stands out as obviously NOT being an old photo?

TIA!

I'm not too familiar with old photos, but I think you did a pretty good job! Nothing really stands out as being not old as far as I can see.
I feel like an old photo would start to fade, so maybe a little less contrast would help the aged look and give it years of sunlight exposure. This might apply just to the negative space though, because I like the brightness and contrast of the slide.

When I opened this thread and saw the picture, I thought; "What? Did someone post a picture from the 1950's?"

Great work, I like it! Definately looks like an old carnival photo from the 50's

Just addressing the vintage effect:

When I first looked at this, something felt just a bit off. At first I couldn't figure out what it was, but after looking at the image again today, I think it is that the slides in the photo look like they're really smoothly colored and very contrasty. This doesn't feel quite right to me. Even in the sepia conversion, they look like fiberglass or plastic, and new. For a '50s photo of a fair, I'd expect a more worn look, probably with scratches (showing up as discoloration) in the bottom of the dips on the slides.

I disagree about the "new look" of the slide detracting from the effect. Even in the 50s they had new slides, maybe even plastic ones. The sepia effect is well done and it does look like an old photo - actually a lot older then the 50s. I've seen a lot of 50s photos lately & none of them looked like this one.
I think adding a scratched effect might help the aged look but overall it's well done, IMHO.

TFS Philip.

cheers!
Ian
