Smile Selective Color Fits ?????

I just want to ask you if the selective color in this photo is better than making the photo only black and white.

Thank you in advance for your critique

It is one way of drawing the eye to the subject that the photographer wants to have dominance in the image. I am not a big supporter of such use, but it is a nice image that needs it if one is not open to using other techniques of composition to focus the viewer on the subject.

I like the overall tone and texture of your image. I would have composed it differently so as to bring the chain and lock into prominence and used a focused light to accentuate the subject within the frame.

It's really not needed.

I like this! I personally have always been a fan of black and white with a pop of color. When doing a photo like this the color usually draws out the focal point in the picture.

To each his/her own of course, but selective color has been abused so much that a lot of people are sick of looking at it....I will say this one is subtle enough to not be outwardly offensive, but it should have a reason, and I don't think there is one here.

This was very insightful I have to admit i've used photoshop before i even started getting into photograpghy started learning it in highschool. While i understand your view on selective coloring i still find it quite nice when done the right way.
