Default standard HDR question

The question everyone asks: "It's my first time, and it is this too much?" I loved all the texture and sort of...kept going. Too far? The white clouds bother me, but someone else said they liked the contrast, so I don't know.

(I know the composition isn't great, but...it is what it is)

5 exposures.

EOS 5D
f/7.1
1/200
ISO-100
24mm
Speedlite Flash

If you wanted it to look "photorealistic", then you went a little too far with the tone mapping. Personally, I like the slightly more processed look, so I think it's very good, especially the texture on the walls and ceiling. HDR is very much in the eye of the beholder.

Nice work, keep 'em coming.

Thank you very much. Part of the problem is that I didn't really have an objective -- just had fun playing with the texture. After walking away and coming back to it today, you're right, it's not realistic...that'll be a fun new challenge.

I believe that ultimately HDR is so open for interpretation there really isn't a right answer persay, there are wrong answers, but there are also many ways to do HDR proud.

I think you did a great job if you were going for that more processed look which personally I like for this photo. If you wanted to go more photorealistic you can definitely do that to just a matter of turning down a few things and getting the shot to where you want it.

Either way if your object is just to learn what you can achieve with HDR processing I think you've done well for your first shot and you can process this many different ways to see all the different looks you can create. Hope this helps and Good luck!

I would tone down the hotspot...its what keeps grabbing my attention and not the focal point of your image as it should...the processing is again a subjective thing..if you are happy with the processing then go with it...HDR is one of those process that you will change on your own as you do more and come to figure out what you want the end result to be..
