Default Trying food photography

Hi,
I'm a homemaker with a new found love for food photography. I have an old Canon Power Shot SX120IS. This is an image I took yesterday. Plz let me know what all could have been done to make this pic better. I'm hoping that if I can manage to get some decent shots I can persuade my dear husband to enroll me for a photography course and buy me a better camera. I need ur help guys.

Default Thanks Vihara.

Thanks for ur comment. I used natural lighting on a cloudy morning near a south facing window. I had also sharpened the edges using Picasa.

some yummy looking caramel. i love it. just a nitpick... wish you have so positioned the spoon that it wouldn't compete with the creme caramel.. say on the side..?

The background kills ya in the first shot. Perhaps move it so the background is cleaner, such as a wall.

It' s a good shot but can be improve

+1 to Jim, your background is quite distracting, better it would be plain or can be out of focus.

the golden spoon is not accentuate the food (just for me)

make a simple arrangement and glassware not to compete with your food, or if you added make sure it will enhance.

try to experiments with different angles or sometimes mess up with your food, it will enhance your creativity.
