Default Boats at the dock

I'm not normally into black and white, but I took a shot of the boats at a dock and I wasn't thrilled with it. I would like to know if you think this is a good B&W conversion or get suggestions on how it might be done better. I originally posted this on a few boards and people liked it but thought the sky was over exposed, so I dropped the exposure on the sky by about 1.25 stops. The original was taken with my Nikon D700 at 12mm using my Sigma 12-24 lens at 1/1000th, f/9 and ISO400:

I like the b/w conversion much better than the color version. Maybe your sky was over-exposed because of your high ISO. It looks like a bright day, and you could have come down to 100 or 200. Good job on correcting that issue. Good composition and long depth of field.

I like the conversion.

I do find my eye battling between the brightness of the horizon and the stark white of the 247 seat.

Not sure, and would have to play, but if you could darken the top of that boat just a touch, I think you would have a winner here.

Dont need to overdo it, just enough so the horizon draws my eyes...and by eyes are not drawn back to the brightness of that boat...

just my 2c's

I think it looks great. The sky in b&w gives it a more dramatic feel, and appears almost 3 dimensional looking.

I played with the color picture, which is also a great picture too, this was something I did using my HTC thunderbolt real quick

I think it is a good b/w but my eye is drawn to the brightness of the boat in the foreground. How about leaving the boats in color and jump up the sat. a bit then b/w the rest of the pic.
