Default Rapeseed Sunset - Would love some feedback

Hi,

I took this photo a few nights ago, i'm a total amateur and enjoy experimenting with different photo methods. I have been reading that shooting in the evening or early morning can produce some great lighting effects and this is my first ever effort.

I would really appreciate some feedback, especially as to whether this is perhaps overdone? Colours perhaps not looking right or too much colour? And any feedback on general composition etc...

Many thanks in advance.

PS I hope I have attached the file properly.

I had a few issues with uploading photo. You can also view it on my flickr account... http://www.flickr.com/photos/g_wood/...in/photostream

I think the colors give it almost a water-color painted feel (around the sun, anyways) but my main issues are:

The horizon needs to be leveled (That tilts the fore-edge of the field but that's fine.)

The horizon is too close to centered. Put it around the 1/3 mark so there's 1/3 earth and 2/3 sky or visa-versa.

I hope you don't mind me doing a bit of editing (I'll remove it from the post if you'd like.)

Great shot!

I agree with the changes made by Prabbit, but its still a very strong shot.

The colours dont look natural at all... however thats not a bad thing if it works in the shot and setting pictured... in this case it really works and enhances the picture a lot IMO.

would have love the actual sun to be slightly more in the picture... i think its just a touch too much on the edge of the pic, but thats just a minor thing, and if I wasn't critiquing I probably wouldn't even mention it.

Overall a great shot

Thank-you very much for the kind comments.

I don't mind the editing at all, its very good of you to take the time to show me what you mean. Now you mention it you are right the horizon is slightly off kilter and needs adjusting.

I wish I had taken another couple of shots with the sun slightly further into the frame, perhaps 1/3rd from the left.
