Default Stairwell

I had previously placed this photo in the wrong section. I'm putting here to see what others might think regarding the color deselection (I know it's not so popular here) whether it adds or subtracts from the image and contrast or any other useful bits.

The selective colour works for me.

There appears to be a lean to the left on the image (the verticals are not vertical) which is slightly disturbing.

Thanks for that view Richard. Maybe some of the verticals are not vertical because of the 16mm (24 on D90) lens. There are a lot of angles in there some more discrete than others. I'll have a play with it. I was going for a slightly disturbing scene as I titled it "Apprehension" - but it may be a little disturbing for the wrong reasons

Pretty new here (first post) but what's the purpose of the color deselection? What story are you trying to tell with it? That's where I get lost. It seems to be done just for the sake of doing it, and I think it takes away from it.

I had actually called this shot 'Apprehension' - I thought it was kind of obvious, a lady all alone descending into a deserted carpark. The color was to lead the viewer down the staircase and emphasise the the lady. With all the distractions in the color version it didn't seem to give the same feeling - lots of diagonal yellow lines etc. This wasn't mean't as a journalism photo just a photo I had a spur of the moment idea for and using my wife as the model. Thanks for your pov.

Bruce

I happen to be a big fan of color selection.... I know, most people here aren't and I'm a newbie so what the heck do I know about photography.... but hey, to each their own right?

Anyhow, have you tried it with ONLY the stair stripes colored? Something about the color of her hair (which looks yellow on my monitor) that I don't care for. I just LOVE her purse and it would be a shame to lose that color.... but the hair.... something needs to be done with that (can you make it brown?).... or maybe it's just my monitor????

I like how the stair stripes really give it depth, I think the color deselection really adds to the overall pic.

I guess I would have picked the handrails (if they're yellow) over the steps to convey the sense of "going under" that you want. I'm not sure if "aprehensive" would be the right word for a yellow colored person. For me aprehension has more to do precisely with a lack of "vivid-ness". So I would also remove the color from the model and see how that works.

In answer to your question GCG, no I haven't but I may give it a go. As for her blonde hair tone, it took on a yellowish tone from the carpark lighting and I thought it added to the effect. BTW - she loves that old bag too

No, the handrails are a steel grey. Thanks for your input.
