Default KungFu

My cousin asked me to take some shots of him during one of his classes. The conditions were pretty rough in there and the background was pretty boring and ugly, so I decided to try something different. This is the first time I have tried anything like this so any comments or critiques would be greatly appreciated. I dont have the exif data off had but here is what I can remember.

200mm
f4
ISO800

Final

I can say that the second one is my favorite out of the two. But the loss of focuse on the first one really takes away from it for me. I like seeing the motion on his legs and arms, but would like to see more tack sharp focus on his face, and maybe the spear(not sure the proper name).

Thanks for the comments. I guess I should have been more clear in my post. The first shot is just showing a before. I agree that it was to soft. That and the fact the the background were pretty uninteresting are the reason I tried to do something different with the shots..

Okay I gotcha, I did miss understand you. Then yes, what you did is definitely an improvement over the original.
