Default A New Enemy?

This is a combination of two photos I took nearly 10 years ago at the Gettysburg Battlefield with my old Nikon E995 P&S. I envision it as if he is assessing the new invasion and wondering whether to open fire, not realizing that his time is long past. Critique is welcome.

EXIF data is:

Nikon E995
Shutter 1/320
Aperture f7.5
ISO 100

I copied the background layer of the shot of the cannon then converted to B&W. I then selected the union officer from another image and copied it as a separate layer, reduced the opacity to about 60% and saved as jpeg.

I think I'd like to see the placement of the soldier in a different location. The idea is great but its hard to tell if he is standing behind the canon or in front.

It seems the enemy has some sort of secret weapon in the form of some sort of 4 wheeled vehicles.
Kidding aside, removal of the cars may make for a more powerful image

Here's a cropped version of what i mentioned above...good solution, if you don't want to bother with cloning out the vehicles in the original configuration

I considered removing the vehicles, then I guess I just got lazy. The placement of the soldier was dictated by the vehicles. They looked really odd when visible through his midsection. I like the cropped version though. If I was taking the photos today I'd do a much better job of examining the background before taking the shot. I was a bit rushed because I was traveling with my wife and her sister, and neither of them is at all into photography, so I was usually just stuck with hurried snapshots.

Thanks all for the suggestions.

It's a cross you'll have to bear, haha. I have just the opposite problem. There's been many a time that I have to stop my wife, also a photographer, from going crazy shooting. If there's 5 angles to shoot a photo, she'll try to invent the sixth way of doing it Being that I still do 95% of the edits, you can see my plight, sigh....

At least it gives you something that you like to do together. I wish that my wife would show more interest. She has a pretty good eye for composition, and with a little effort I think that she could do some good work.
