Default Threshold experiment

Used a threshold filter (28) when processing this photo.
I am pleased with the unexpected effect.
Will welcome any comments, critique, etc. since I am new at processing photos.

It is a very good image for the technique, especially the framing created by the strong lines of the fence at the bottom and the gentle filigree of the leaves at the top and the positioning of the figure as a point of interest.

Was this just a case of taking a photo and experimenting with threshold settings? There are two refinements you might like to try:

1. Use the curves tool instead. A very steep curve will have a similar effect to the threshold tool but will also create some grey values in between which soften edges just a bit. With threshold everything is either black or white leading to pixelated edges.

2. Experiment with what gets left in / taken out. You might want to paint out small clusters of black pixels which just look like grey smudges when viewed from a distance. Also, it might work to remove the horizon line (or to combine a stronger horizon taken from a version with a different threshold setting).

Thanks for the feedback. I have not done much with post production editing and you gave me some impetus to play around more with it.
Here is the result:

I really like the jade green version - you get the stark contrast of the threshold idea but also some subtlety introduced back with the colour.

Yes, I think I like that one best, as well. Thank you for your comments.
