Default Hard & Grungy

Sometimes life feels like an action movie

Took this image a while back and decided to do some post on it today.I was trying to go for a hard grungy feel. Kinda like an old school action movie. Did some Dave Hill-esque processing with some extra adjustments thrown in. Did I pull it off? What could be better?

shutter speed: 1/250s
aperture: f/5.6
ISO: ISO 200
focal length: 23 mm

I do not see any Dave Hill style editing but its got a great overall feel to it. You have some haloing around the person and I am not a fan of having the line go between his arms. I would have cut it off before it reached him and faded it out with a gradient mask.

Started with this Creating That Dave Hill Look | DIYPhotography.net, then did some adjustments using Levels, Curves and extra overlay layers. Yeah, the line didn't work out. I'll try something else I had in mind. Thanx for the C&C.

Edit: Tweaked the line and text in the image a little. Hope that's better now?

Wow, this looks really great!
A few things that come to my mind:
- try to get rid of the halo around his head;
- the sky on the far right is blown out and detracts attention, maybe you can do another conversion of the original file and then blend it in
- his face is too dark, if you can achieve brightness of the face to equal that of his shoulders, it would be great. Same goes for the lower part of his arms.

Overall it looks very raw and grungy like you wanted it.

I like this otherwise, but it bothers me that I can't see his face. The fact that the face is so dark, makes my eye focus on it and then I can't see any detail in it...Plus I'd do something to get rid of that halo around his head.
