Default Washed out photo

Hello,

I took this photo the other day and did a horrible job of metering the scene.
This man was sitting with two other people at a cafe table, I found his face interesting, so my intention was to take the picture, crop it and then convert it to b&w.

I didn't want to stand around too long and adjust my settings, so I ended up being careless with my metering. I am slowly building up my confidence to just snap away and not care too much about my surroundings.

I liked the way the man is looking out into the distance, so I tried to save the picture using PSP X2 as best I could.

In the end, I am happy with the picture, but I would like to know what the DPS crowd thinks.

Cheers!

Nice. You could put him on different shades of background.

I love happy accidents like this one! I've got a similar self portrait and it is one of my faves. It doesn't suit everyone's taste, but I like it.

Honestly, I don't like it. It's way blown out to bits. Where there should be some detail as in a high-key shot, has just been obliterated and looks odd, like part of his head is missing. The blacks are completely clipped, too.

JMHO and not trying to be harsh. If you went to print this, it wouldn't print well at all. It's not converted to BW either...it's a weird greenish-orange brown.

Actually, no. The background would fill in the parts that are missing from being blown out and make him look like part of his head is missing, unless you "drew in" a new head.

I knew right off that the shot was blown out, I just wanted to do something different and try and save the pic.
The picture was converted to BW, added the filter "Photo Effects" (Film and Filters) from PSP and picked out the filter color that I liked best for the pic. I gave up on trying to save it in BW.

I appreciate your opinion, Thanks.

And Thank You for your comments!

Cheers!
