Default Jurrasic Coast

Would like some critique on PP and Composition for this shot Taken on the Dorset coast ner Kimmeridge Bay.

Exif :

Exposure: 96
Aperture: f/16.0
Focal Length: 24 mm
ISO Speed: 100
Exposure Bias: 0 EV
Flash: No Flash
Exposure Program: Manual
Metering Mode: Multi-segment

Exposure Mode: Manual
White Balance: Manual

PP in Lightroom :

Grad filter for sky, Tweek on Blacks and Lightened some shadows.

This was taken using my 10 stop B&W ND Filter.

Other PP : Ran through Noiseware.

Questions : Have I overdone the Colors? and Is there too much going on in the left of frame?

Love the colors and feel of it. Shutter speed was long enough to really make the water into mist.

But the ball thingy in the foreground is really distracting me. Yea maybe it's "the" thing in the photo but I would've just taken it out of the picture as it would be much stronger image without it... in my opinion.

But as far as post processing goes it's great.

Thanks guys. Looking at the photograph now I wish I had taken the same shot but with the float missing to compare.

Is the Float too bright for the shot?

There is always a crop but I think loosing too much from the slabs of stone in the foreground would take away from the image.

I did a quick two minute test how the thing would look like with different colors and little bit darker.

Just used curves with a mask to darken the float and then layer on top of it painted with orange from sky on top, blue from the water in middle and brown from the rock on botton and turned the blending mode to color... of course with the same mask.

I think for me, this photo has been very nicely taken and processed. No critique from me there at all.

My advice here is to ask yourself next time, is the photo about the landscape you see here? Or is it about the float in the landscape? In this shot they are competing for my attention. The float looks like a peice of man in an otherwise natural environment if you get my meaning.

I would have either a) not had the float in the shot, or b) chosen a closer view of the float to really make it the main subject backed up by the nice landscape behind.

Great shot, colour is great as is the water at that speed. But I agree that the float is distracting and the colour too. I'd crop it out personally, if you do it will appear a wider shot as well.

Hope this helps.
