Hi All,
I have never posted an image before, so I apologise if I have done something wrong. I have tried to re-size the image, but i'm a beginner and when I scaled it to what I think is 700px the image was tiny. Anyways on to the image... I took this mid afternoon (I know the lighting isn't very good) about a week ago. I'm really new to photography but get a lot of pleasure from taking photos and getting out in the countryside. I would appreciate any feedback, especially with regard to processing etc, I suffer from colour blindness and thus don't feel very confident with the way my pictures often look. Thank-you! ![]() Full Size Image.. http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/1397/riverbank.jpg Last edited by DurExplorer; 06-15-2010 at 09:09 PM. |

Hello!,
firstly, the image size is fine, you could go a bit bigger but it doesn't matter too much. If someone wants to see a larger image you have the link there. As for the photo; it's a nice shot, and mostly done well. The light portions are fine, however it looks a little washed out - if you adjust the curves a bit to be a bit darker on the shadow side I think it would do the photo a world of good. (i.e. bumping up the contrast a bit). Also, I don't think the horizon is strait, the river looks like it's on a slant. Perhaps rotate the photo a bit anti-clockwise. And for me personally, i find the right hand portion of grass to be a bit distracting, it kind of takes away from what I think is the focus - the river. I had a quick 5 min, play, I think you could do a better job than this, but here is what I did to show what I mean. (edit; actually, I think the horizon still isn't strait hehe) |

I like this very much. As said above, it's like an old landscape painting.
I might have cropped out the right edge with the telephone pole and some of the foreground, but that is about it.

Thank-you for all the feedback, its really great to hear.
I have taken onboard your comments and tried altering the photo slightly. I have trimmed away some of the foreground, also the telegraph pole area has gone, also I have raised the contrast slightly to take away the 'washed out' look the image had. Any further feedback? Do you prefer the new version or the original? Interestingly I don't think the river looks as 'slanty' now I have altered the original.

I really like your second attempt! It's subtle, and has beautiful colors.
