Default Squirrel

Years ago my son gave me the nickname "Squirrel". Me and him still to this day sit out and watch them from time to time. All this time and I never took pictures of any of them. My son is 12 now and he was up to see me the other day and told me, since Squirrel was my nickname I needed a picture of one. So I got this one sitting there eating and did it in HDR. i used PhotoMatix and then used Corel Paintshop photo pro x3. Printed it and I think it turned out OK. What do you guys think?

I am all about HDR processing, but in this photo, it just doesn't do it for me! Let me explain...

The best HDR photos out there have big differences in color contrast. With this photo being fairly monochromatic, the HDR gives it an awkward feel. The squirrel is brown, and the two different pieces in the background are brown. Because of so much brown, I don't think the HDR works well.

But, it is a cute picture and I do appreciate the fact that you can even take a photo of a squirrel! Every time I've tried, they never stay still, of course. Try HDR on a more colorful, contrast photo, and it will look great! :-)

Well this not a true HDR, as it is a single image that went through the HDR or so called HDR part of Corel paintshop Photo pro x3. It was not really intended to be as you describe, (as I totally agree with you) But it was intended to be more cartoonish instead. these little rascals do not hold still for three quick photos LOL

But yes you are right and I will try to load some of my true HDR's when I get the time. thanks for the advice though. it was well taken..

To make the squirrel look cartoon-y, I would try a pop art effect. I think that would look great!
