I would have chosen a portrait orientation so you could get the dogs paws in the frame as well. I also think there is too much local contrast (did you tone map this) and over saturation in the image. Since you are wide your depth of field should be pretty large but at F4 you may want to try stopping down a little bit more to get the dogs nose in focus as well. Having the eyes in focus like you have now however is the most important part I feel. Depending on your distance to the subject and your lens stopping your lens down may not have been necessary to get the dogs nose in focus. You may have been to close to focus on the nose (your lens min focus distance will be able to help you with this). If you were too close just take a step or two back.
