Default The eye of my cat!

Hi, I decided to try a color selection effect on one of my photo...

I made this with Gimp 2.6
I wanted to know if it made my cat look like devil or something!!
Is my black and white dark enough?
How do you find the eyes?

Thanks for your comments...Here the exif data...

Exif data:
Nikon D80
Exposure time: 1/100 sec.
Aperture: F/5.6
ISO: 400
Flash did not fire
Focal length: 80mm

You may consider working on the b/w tones more. The eye looks a bit scary but I think you did well on the selective coloring effect.

Cheers!

Yes, I agree, I'll try maybe sepia or something like this...

I accentuate the blue... Maybe a little too much! I wanted to show how beautiful his eyes are but the final result is the opposite.

I'm learning Gimp one step at a time and for now, I like it very much. It's best quality: being FREE!!

Thanks and have a nice day!

Wow...those are pretty creepy. Aside from that, you may want to try feathering the edge a little when you make your selection around the eyes. The cutoff point of your processing is pretty obvious. I think that would help to blend it in and make it look a little more natural.

Thanks kstiltne for your comment!
Yeah, I cut the eyes too straight... To feathering the edge do you use a brush tool?

Your selection tool should have a feather edges option. When you choose your tool, there will be a check box at the bottom of the toolbox that says "feather edges", if you check it, it will let you adjust the feather radius. It just softens the edges of the selection so that it doesn't just cut off immediately. You'll have to play with the settings a bit to find out the right amount to suit your needs, but it's definitely helpful.

I'm using Gimp 2.6
So if I understand well, I can select the eyes... The way I did it, it's by using a brush...
I will give it a try for sure!

Thanks for your help!!

Ah, sorry, by the look of it I assumed you had used a different method. I think you could soften the edges of your brush in roughly the same way and achieve the same effect.
Many different ways to achieve the same results.

I modified my photo... Here's the result

I changed a little bit the tone of my B/W image (made it a little more blueish)
I changed the blue of the eyes (with less punch)
I made the color selection with selection feather edge (50%) instead of brush

Thank you very much for all your comments and suggestions. I think this photo is better than the first one!
But there's always place for improvement so if you think of something else, please let me know!

Thanks again and a nice day to everyone,

Default blue eyes

The improvement was considerable, before you had just made the eyes blue, for no reason that i could see. Now with a pale blue cat and much more natural eyes maybe people might not know anything was amiss! I rate it as a nice picture, and well handled. As it happens cat pix has been a bit of a hobby with me lately, perhaps you could look in at [URL="http://dr-awsom.blogspot.com"]and we could compare notes. I hope this is allowed, my blog is very inactive at the moment. Go well, Bob
