Default Split tone daffodils at sunset- does this work?

Hey,
I took this photo of the sun shining through some daffodils yesterday, and decided to try split toning, so the shadows are in greyscale while the highlights are toned yellow. Does this work for you? I know that there is often a negative reaction to selective colour, but this is different, honest

Hi. First let me say that I'm not an expert at all, that I generally prefer colour to greyscale... and that I'm also viewing this on a 4-year-old iMac. On my screen the yellow toning is very subtle -- indeed, to be honest, I can hardly tell it's there. That may be just me though: sometimes people in these parts talk about uncalibrated monitors, and I've no idea whether mine's calibrated or not -- perhaps some other kind person would confirm how yellow the highlights are on their screen!

Apart from that, the light looks nice and the job looks a good 'un to my untrained eye. It's a slight shame that we seem to be looking more at the backs of the daffodils rather than the fronts, but I suppose that was necessary to get the light right...

Hope this helps

Surprised.

Nice work. You can't really tell it is split tone. It could just as easliy have been single toned in a muted yellow. The grey is hard to pick up. Have you tried to split it with blue in the shadow? Might give you more visual separation between shawdows and highlights...

The yellow is pretty subtle, almost looks sepia toned to me.

Thanks for the feedback!

Surprised- the colouring is indeed very subtle, but I think that's because of the very light tones in the daffs- the yellow tone is about as saturated as it can get. I think I'll try lowering the brightness to make them more yellowy. Also, you're right about the positioning of the floweres: it's as shame that they are facing the wrong way, but they were the only ones with the light shining through.

zona- thanks for the suggestion, I shall try a blue tone

Its incredibly subtle, in fact, id go so far as to say you could probably brighten the daffs up a bit more
