Default Is it too dark?

Hello everyone,

This is my first post in this section... so a lil nervous
I took this pic last year on Antelope Island in Utah. I tried editing it in the lightroom to get the HDR effect and came up with this result (Although this pic was not taken with multiple exposures).

Many of my friends like it but I'm still unclear

Well, I need some advice as how I can improve this picture or leave it the way it is.

Exposure: 1/200 sec at f/11
Focal length: 20mm
ISO: 400
Flash: did fire
Gear: Canon EOS Xsi 450D
Lens: 18-55mm

If I haven't provided enough information then please pardon me & let me know what exact info you may need.

thanks

Subaika

Well, I called my wife in to also get her opinion on this, and without telling her my thoughts she said exactly what I was thinking...it's neither a silhouette nor a fully lighted image...kind of in limbo between the two. We think it would have worked better if it were one, or the other. The subjects smack in the middle is usually a no no for me, but this kind of works OK.

The half silohuette half not is too distracting, the green shirt stands out and distracts from the rest of the image. Is it possible to bring out the details in the shaddows or even use masks to make it a full silohuette, which could also use a brightening of the back ground.

I think it would benefit from a crop, perhaps placing the people to the side, or even trimming off some of the shirt.
