Default Texture, is it good.?

A portrait of a cat.. very common, nothing special about, so I try adding some texture to create an artistic mood to the pic while focusing and bringing attention on the face of the cat. Did i do any good.? or should i just forget about textures for the moment. This is more of an experimenting stage to me. Main question here is did the texturing here work or did it just destroy the pic.

basically, sharpened, then add some gaussblur o soften it a bit. set blending mode and opacity to lighten it a bit, thereafter adding textures and a touch of color

cat_0002_p

well, do you like it or don't like..?

I like it except for the horizontal and vertical line which is breaking it up into bricks, sort of. Those lines are disconcerting to me, and make it look like the cat is caught in the cross hairs.

This was exactly my reaction to it. I really like the effect of the texture and the other work that you have done. For me, it makes it more that just "another cat portrait". The lines forming the crosshairs sort of ruins it for me, though. Maybe a similar texture without those lines or cloning them out of this one?

I actually really like the "cross hairs" look, unlike the others.

I thought the rest of the texture was a bit much though. Perhaps go a little lighter on that?

I really like how the focus/processing really highlights the face.

I think it would have been a really nice photo without all of the extra processing.
