Default Critique for possible exhibition

Hi all, I have the chance to put some work up in a local shop which will also allow me to sell some. I would really love it if you could give me any opinions on this image as it is quite dark (which I love) but am not sure if it is to everyone's taste.

Shot with a Nikon D40 X with 50mm f1.8 @ iso 400. Processed in Lightroom.

Please also tell me what you think of the shot in general!

Thanks!!!!

I like the composition and the lighting of this shot very much. My only problem is the plant is not in focus.

I'm sorry but I'm not sure I agree. Yes there are parts of the plant not in focus but it is in focus where I wanted it to be. I used a large aperture to throw some of it out of focus on purpose.

I think your processing is just fine might be a tad dark but it's a personal taste. If you like the way it looks then that's how it should look. For me I've seen many of these shots it's just not a very interesting subject and I'm sure anyone who is into photography has seen a similar shot that looks just like this. I'm sure everyone who takes images has tried doing something like this. I do however enjoy the background blur, it looks like wispy clouds to me, very cool. I like the black and white treatment as well, it's just the subject doesn't really hold my attention long enough.

Hi Murtasma. Thanks for the comments. Now you mention it the subject isn't that great. I got a little consumed with the editing and lost sight that the subject is just a dried out set of leaves! I need to make sure that I stay focussed (not that type of focussed craigmstevens!) on the subject matter itself.

I really do appreciate your comments!

Thanks again.
