I shot this wearing my grandpop's Army Uniform, then processed it to give it an antique/battered/destroyed look. I just wanted to get some feedback on the processing:

has a unique look but doesnt exactly look truely old.
The texture you used......how did you apply it? What blending method if any or did you lay it over and just lower opacity. It seems to "sit" on top of image. I would go back and if you can disect the photo or start over.....whichever would be quicker. When you get the texture you like and the opacity change the blend mode to multiply. I think I would then take the photo of you in the uniform and adjust the color some. I personally like the look of the decolorized version you linked if the texture was applied a bit more natural. Great idea though....I think a few slight tweaks and its definitely something to be proud of.

Hello there. Cool photos. Interesting effect to try, and the image you chose suits the effect also! I like the sepia toned one or the black and white but not the curves one. In the curves one, the face is too purple.
I don't like the dark deep very fancy vignette's as they compete with the image. How about keeping with your antique theme and adding photo album corners and/or a zig zag edges The other framing technique that would be nifty is to try to duplicate the old black cardboard folders which had an upright oriented oval using an upright 4:3 format rather than square format on the right half of the black cardboard folder to frame the photo in and if you are really artistic place a shadow effect underneath its edges above the portrait, as if it was a different layer as in actuality they were. I googled and tried to find one to show you, but to no avail ;-( ( Can I be a pain?...if you found this antiquing technique fairly easy to do, can you clone stamp out your shadow against the wall before beginning the antiquing effect ) |

Hey, you could try 'match colour' in photoshop. Find an image you are trying to duplicate (ideal if you had one of your grandad in uniform), then match your pic to it.
Also, if you had a pic with a tear or fold in it you could try cloning this into yours, that would really enhance the antique effect.
