Default Question about Photoshop CS3

I have a question. I just started using photoshop and I am having a hard time saving files as a jpeg. When I go to save as it doesn't give me the option to save as a jpeg so I've been saving them as psd files. Is there anyone who knows what could be going on?

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Tiffany

If you flatten the image back down to 1 layer you should then be able to save as jpeg, if more than 1 layer it will only save a psd.
Hope that helps.

If the above does not work after you flatten the image - there is a drop down menu, and where is says pdf, you can then save it as a jpg. Sometimes that happens to me - I think its random but I suspect there is a reason, I just dunno what it is!

what other options does it give you? you could save as .png files, which are higher quality than JPEG but the file size will be larger.

You could be in 16 bit mode.

Go to Image>Mode>change to 8 bit. You cannot save to jpeg in 16 bit mode.

Default Also "Save for Web..."

There's also the "Save for Web and Devices..." option from the File menu - or press SHIFT-CRTL-ALT-S (on Windows) - and this should bring up the dialog for saving an optimized JPG of the image regardless of what state or format it's in...

I know you can have multiple-layers open in the document and you do not have to flatten it first before "Saving for Web..." - it just discards hidden layers and saves "what it sees" as a JPG - and it may automatically knock everything down to 8-bits if you're in a higher mode. (Not sure about that, though...)
