I am hoping someone could point me towards a tutorial that shows how I can achieve the processing effect created in the photos linked below. I am not really looking for an action because I would like to do it myself so I can know whats going on. I am thinking the effect is kind of a bleach bypass but the colors and tones are so smooth and rich in these images so I am at a loss. Thanks in advance for the help. De Vetpan Studios

I dont know of any good tutorials on this, but I can point you in a path to acheive a similar effect. To start use an image with lots of sifferent object and a very clear subject, and make sure you have sufficient lighting in the shot. everything I am explaining will be done in layers of the background. To start duplicate the backgorund layer, he is adjusting the overall colors (btw I am going to guide you in photoshop so if your using another editing software I cant be of much help) anyways using enhancements, select the color variations option, then select highlights then decrease the blue (there should be 6 pictures showing examples and titles of what they do) decreasing blue will make the highlights of the picture more yellow (like their skin is in the samples you gave) them select the shadows and increase the blue (these are all to your own taste and some photos you will want to increase and decrease more than others so do these two steps to your own liking) After youve finished with the shadows slide the bar down that controls how much the image is effected by the changes and select midtones and select the lighter option picture on the far right to lighten the entire image, you can also go to saturation and select desaturate just a tad. flaatten the image (in between each step i recomend) create another layer, Now you should have the overall colors and tones correct for this image, now using the brush tool set to 500 or so pixals on soft round brush, set it to color burn, check that your background color is white nad set your foreground color to a very dark tealish blue. now use the brush to color burn the edges of the photo in a smudgey way (make sure your opacity is set low on the brush to say 7 or 8% bc its a very strong brush) the images you want to acheive do not have perfect vignettes, they do vingette in a pattern that coincides witht he elements in the image. Now I would select your main subject in the image and all the objects in their depth of feild, then using another new layer of the background use a slight motion blur in the filters section, then use a surface blur on the same layer. Fade the opacity of the layer to look natural like you have a very shallow depth of field. Sharpen your subject and reduce noise now if neccessary. Finally, use another background layer set to screen to brighten up areas of the image like your subjects and random object, set the opacity really low to look naturally like they were lit in the room. Then use a new layer of the background set to multiply on a really low oppacity and clear out the center of the image to vingnette appropriatly. And that should do it... hope this is understandable and let me know if you have any questions or anything at all. (:

I think you might be able to achieve something similar by adjusting the different colour channels with a curves adjustment layer.
I don't know how familiar you are with curves, but if there is something here you don't understand, it's just to ask You can for example try to make the black less black and more purple/magenta by dragging the black point (the point at the bottom to the left) on the green channel (you can switch from RGB to the different colour channels at the top of the curves dialog box) to the right. You could also make a point at the middle of the horizontal line and drag it slightly down, making all of the picture more purple. Also you could try and make the white slightly more yellow by dragging the white point (the point to the right at the top) on the blue channel slightly to the left and maybe add a point pretty high at the diagonal line and drag it slightly up while adding a point further down on the line and drag it down to where it were before you added the other point and dragged it up (making the lighter tones more yellow, while keeping the darker colours a bit cooler). I don't have Photoshop at this computer so I can't really try it out, but I think that might be the direction to go. Just play around a bit with the different colour channels and see what happens

Ohhh cool lots of tips and ways of ding it
![]() heres mine from my notes: "A common bleach bypass technique used in video work is to duplicate the clip, make the layer additive or screen mode, desaturate it, adjust the opacity and then adjust the color and contrast on the original layer to taste." Good luck with the effect
