Default How do i make someone drop one dress size in Photoshop?

Generally i think i am quite good in Photoshop, but i have a client that wants to be skinned and toned in some bikini shots.

I didnt take the pics, just have to retouch them... The client is a model and wants to look slimmer and more toned in the pics... I can do all the other things she requires...but have an issue with dropping one dress size.

Other then trying to use the erase tool, which works, but not with brilliant results, is there any magic trick to achieve this?

Thank you so much...

Alexandra

Sorry I couldn't be more verbose, but what you're looking for is called the liquify tool. There's plenty of demos and tutorials on youtube, etc.

Putting aside my moral issues with this, I believe the industry does it using pen tool to select from backgroud then warping via distortion tool slightly to make the hips smaller.

If the person is already a model, Im guessing she is probably a pretty slim person to start with. I would go back and say that she is fine in these photos, but if she really wants a slimmer look, it would be easier/better to reshoot another set - with a downwards angle onto her with face looking up and a 50mm. It will make the hips smaller in perspective to the body (basically)

Seriously if she is presenting photoshopped size-wise images to a publisher, it kind of says she is fine with them doing shit like that in the future. Maybe she is fine with it, but I would say it opens a whole kettle of fish - where does the digital manipulation stop?

Anyways ethics lecture over :P

I strongly advised her to have a different set of photos done. The photographer seemed to have focused his camera elsewhere but not on her face and the entire portfolio is bikini shots... Something tells me she wont do it...

Thank you for the liquify and pen tool tip.

The liquify tool my second go-to (after the cloning and healing brushes) to make discreet but very flattering cosmetic corrections. If you practice the mask, and do it in small increments, the effect is very natural. I find that pushing, (vs pinching and bloating) is easier to control. Be careful about the youtube videos, a lot of them are just stupidity. Look up model retouching techniques. Ad designers stretch and pull models in photoshop like taffy ALL THE TIME to get a desired effect. Yes it is totally amoral. That's capitalism. Want to make money? Flatter and tempt people.
