Default Post Production - Jewellery shoot

Hi Guys,

Is there anyone who can help me with photoshop? I need to take photos of jewellery and need to know how to remove normal stains, scratches marks ect from the jewellery items.

Rings will be very important, I need to know how to edit them in PS to get that 'clean, smooth yet sharp look' How do they do it?

thanks for all the help.

Devan

A macro lens will go a long way in this. you'll also need to have the camera on a tripod.

Hi I do use a tripod and macro lens, my problem is with post production, to get the item looking as good as possible. ie cleaning away imperfections, stains, scratches from the product itself, I hope I make sense!

attached a few of my photos ( yes, DOF is still a work in progress! )

In the following photos, you will notice that the band part of the rings are not
100% smooth, they have a 'stained' look dark spots/blotches I want to photoshop
them out to get an even looking area, but everytime I try, all I do is make the problem worse!

Anyone with good advise on what to do in PS ? thanks for all the help in advance.

The attachments dont work.

You should be getting rid of the scratches and marks before you shoot it, or not at all. If youre trying to document something, it shouldnt be edited

Hey webphoto --

I can't help much as I do not have much experience in shooting jewelry. But try flickr mailing a gentleman by the flickr name alfredk. He designs and shoots his own jewelry and does a great job at both. He has been very helpful with such on the strobist website, and I imagine he would be friendly and approachable.

Good luck!

Hi OsmosisStudios,

Attachments works, just checked them now.

I want to take photos for clients ( jewellery designers, shops ect ) Thats why a need a 'perfect' photo of their item, as they produce 1000's of the same design, they need the photo to reflect a perfect image of their product. I try to clean the items to the best before shooting, but at the end, some still remains.

Any quick fixes is PS that I can apply?

Best I can suggest is the hackneyed answer of cloning, very very carefully.

the only thing i can think of is to use the dodge tool to make the dark spots lighter then blur the edges of where you dodged. that might work.
