Lomo effect on PSE? is that possible???

I've found a few tutorials about lomo effect, but most of them are for the full version of photoshop or light room. I have PS elements 7 and I can do pretty much anything, except when it comes to change your image to "channels" into "light" to turn it black and white -someone must know what I'm talking about. PSE does not have channels under image. Can anyone guide me on how to reach this effect with PSE?

I love that effect and I can't follow the tutorial given here before on DPS because I don't have the "channels" option.
