Raw files are simply photo counts straight off the sensor, so they're very neutral.
I have camera/iso-based presents I apply on import. My low ISO is Black 7 (thinking about backing that down though)/Contrast 35/Clarity 35/Vibrance 15/Saturation 10.

Don't think Lightroom has this "feature" to hide photos. Perhps you should just have a separate catalog for the photos that you wish to "hide".
Jpegs are not sharper than raw, they are just raw files that the camera made a decision on how much sharpening to apply. When you shoot raw you determine how much sharpening to add when YOU process them.

If you hit the "X" key, the image will be flagged as a Reject and it will appear grayed out in the Library Module but I don't know anyway to easily hide it as you can in iPhoto or Aperture.

I've installed Adobe DNG camera profiles and have my camera's standard profile applied on import. It's made a huge difference to the work I do to the raw files.

Where can I find these profiles? I did a search for them and installed a couple applications, but I didn't see anything get added in Lightroom under camera calibration in the develop module. I'm on a Mac, and my camera is a D5000.

Hey, I just followed the instructions at Adobe
Then I chose the profile in camera calibration at the bottom of the develop panel. I'm using windows, but the Adobe website says it works for Mac too? But it sounds like that's what you're already doing?

I found where the files were installed, and also found that I already had camera profiles. So I don't think what I downloaded installed anything additional. But I was expecting to see a pull down of different cameras to choose from in the camera calibration section in lightroom. How can I tell if it's using the right profile?

No it only gives you the profiles for the camera the image was taken with. I'm not sure, but I guess you should have the same options as your in camera options?
