Default Black and White... arrggghhhh!!!

Hi all, tried to convert this shot to black and white, I'm just not sure which one looks right. The second one has a bit of a pink tint to it and the third one looks a little dark. Also it seems like the whites in his eye's are grayish, what can I do to prevent this from happening?

What did you use to make the conversion and what were your steps?

I used Paint shop Pro X2 and Picasa Photo Viewer, for the steps taken I'm not sure. Does it make a difference? I could go back and start over and write them down if needed.

Unfortunately, I am not familiar with either Paint Shop Pro or Picasa. Someone will almost certainly weigh in that is. The reason that I ask is that one big mistake that a lot of people make in the beginning (myself included) is that they convert the image to greyscale as opposed to converting it to black & white. When converting to greyscale, you throw away 2/3 of the image data. So the procedure, not so much the tool, can make a difference. Again, someone with knowledge of Paint Shop Pro or Picasa will likely chime in an give you a hand.

hi, cindy....

i moved this thread over to the post processing section where the fit is better for the number of images you needed to present.....

i think both of your conversions look very nice.....the skin tones are smoothed out well and the whole scene has a good contrast for black and white.......the eyes should be a fairly easy fix for you.....i think you have a dodge tool which should be able to spot lighten to suit you....

Thank you peeperita, I found that dodge tool button, not in psp x2 but in another program, just didn't know what it was for. It work great!
